Rey Cervantes Memorial Scholarship
Overview
The Rey Cervantes Memorial Scholarship is given by the family of the late Plainfield Academy teacher Rey Cervantes, who passed away in December 2020 from COVID-19.
One $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduating District 202 senior who intends on attending a two- or four-year college or university to study in the field of education to become a teacher.
Criteria
The scholarship must be used to further the student’s education whether at a post-secondary college or university, or a junior college to study education to become a teacher. Preference is given to those who plan to study special education.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a "C" average (cumulative GPA of 3 or higher)
Provide a copy of first semester transcripts
Provide up to two letters of recommendation
Complete an essay answering these questions:
What do you hope to accomplish by going into the field of education?
What uniquely qualifies you to be chosen for this scholarship?
Deadline
Apply by March 15
Award
One, $1,000 scholarship per year.
