Arrival and Dismissal
CAR RIDERS/CAR LINE: DOOR A: Only the children who are getting into cars in the car line will be dismissed from DOOR A. Parents may not come up and grab students from the car line regardless of the weather.
Students will load cars between the curved curb and DOOR B.
Students may not get into cars beyond DOOR B.
Drivers must stay in the vehicle at all times while in the car line.
Students need to be watching for their car while waiting in the grade level squares.
If you are first to pull forward, pull all the way forward to the curved area of the curb. All other cars need to pull all the way forward, leaving little room between cars.
To help expedite the car line, we ask that you write the last name(s) and grade level of the students you are picking up and post it in the passenger window.
WALKERS/OTHER PICK UPS: All students will either be escorted by a staff member out DOOR B, DOOR C (second and third grade only), DOOR E or DOOR G (North side walker or park & pick-up, all grades). Parents need to let children know which side of the building they will be waiting (NORTH or SOUTH) and where they will be standing on the sidewalk or service drive area.
Parents need to remain on the north or south sidewalks or the service drive by DOOR E when picking children up after school. Due to the crowded conditions on the car line (West) sidewalk and at the entrances of the building, we respectfully request that you allow the children the sidewalk space to make their ways safely to the designated doors.
SOUTH SIDE WALKERS = Kindergarten, first & third graders will be dismissed from DOOR B. Second, fourth & fifth graders will be dismissed from DOOR C.
NORTH SIDE OR EAST SIDE WALKERS = ALL grades will be dismissed from either DOOR E or G.
NO PARKING in the back lot where the buses (both small and large) are present.
Please refrain from parking close to the rear exit. Buses need to navigate the tight turn when entering and exiting the parking lot.
Please encourage students to use the sidewalks and refrain from walking or running on the grass and/or across the beautiful landscape.
If older children need to walk younger children home, they too need to have a designated spot on the sidewalk to meet.
Please call before 3:00 PM if the dismissal procedures you have requested need to change. After 3:00 it is difficult to get messages to the classrooms in time for the teachers to properly prepare the students.
NEW ARRIVAL and DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
The safety of all of our children must be everyone’s responsibility. I know you understand and appreciate the care we are taking to ensure the safety of the approximately 850 students from 640 families who attend Charles Reed.
MORNING/ARRIVAL PROCEDURE: Students may arrive and line up as early as 8:45 AM. The first morning bell rings at 8:50 AM. CAR RIDERS/CAR LINE: DOOR A: The goal is to unload 8-9 cars at a time.
The car line begins to unload at 8:45 AM. If you are in line at 8:45, students are expected to get out of the car.
ALL students unload only between DOOR A and DOOR B. Do not let children out of the car before reaching DOOR B. Do not wait until you reach DOOR A to unload regardless of the weather.
Drivers must stay in the vehicle at all times while in the car line.
Students need to be ready to unload the cars quickly once past DOOR B.
If you are first to pull forward, pull all the way forward to the curved area of the curb. All other cars need to pull all the way forward, leaving little room between cars.
Car pooling is encouraged.
WALKERS/OTHER DROP OFFS: Students may start lining up at 8:45 AM at DOOR A. After 8:50 students may use DOOR A or E.
Parents need to remain on the north or south sidewalks or the service drive by DOOR E (Marked “P” on the attached map) when sending children off in the morning. Due to the crowded conditions on the car line (West) sidewalk and at the entrances of the building, we respectfully request that you allow the children the sidewalk space to make their ways safely to the designated doors.
NO PARKING or moving vehicles in the back (EAST) parking lot where the buses (both small and large) enter, unload, and depart.
Please remind students to use the sidewalks and refrain from walking or running on the grass and/or across the beautiful landscape.
DO NOT PARK in the front (WEST) parking spots and walk children across the moving traffic and the car line.
Final bell rings at 9:05 AM. Students are expected to be in their classrooms by 9:05 AM.
